It appears that Charvel also does a good job with QC, but I do not own any current models (I had a 1984 MIJ Model 2 I modded the crap out of before passing it on to a friend). I would say that Jackson also does a good QC job and I have both MII and MIM versions of Soloists and Dinky 6 and 7 stringers. Ibanez does a consistently excellent job with their quality plans regardless of county of manufacture - all my Ibanez guitars have comparable fit and finish quality - MII - MIK - MIJ. I have a jackson Dinky DK27 7 string I bought used in "Good" condition, and after leveling the frets and putting a Duncan JB/Jazz set in with series-single-parallel switches, it has become one of my favorites. It all comes down to QA/QC and how the factory is managed with a good QA/QC plan. Good luck, these are fun guitars!Īll my MIJ guitars are very nice quality - on par with American examples, but so are the following examples made elsewhere. It will come down to which neck shape/feel you prefer most likely. Hopefully not confusing your decision, but long story short you can't go wrong with either. I may have gotten lucky with the ones I have, as the MIMs are great, but my opinion is the consistency of quality and build on the Ibanez is better, as some of the MIMs I've tried have sharp fret ends, etc. The Ibanez sounds great with gain (which is what you're supposed to play with it, right?) but a little thin when played clean. I prefer the Seymour Duncans in the Jackson, closely followed by the EVH pickup. I'd say the difference comes in the pickups. From a quality perspective, it's hard to choose which is constructed best as they each are great. If I had to state a preference, I like the 'down only' Floyd on the EVH for stability's sake, and that thing sustains like mad. However all three have the most silky-smooth necks of any of my guitars outside of a solid rosewood PRS I have.Īll three play incredibly well. But I am surprised how much I like the Wizard neck on the Ibanez, and the fretwork is stellar.

The EVH has the most meat on the neck, and is also a very smooth finish with great fretwork. The Jackson is actually the most comfortable to play, and I prefer the neck shape on it for some reason.

I am impressed with all three, and they each have their positives and negatives. I also just picked up a 2018 RG550 which is MIJ.

I have picked up an EVH Striped Series and a Jackson Pro Series Dinky DK2, both MIM. I have been on a bit of a binge for these type guitars over the last month.
